At the start of this year I was put in the rather unfortunate position of being placed 'at risk of redundancy' from a job I loved. When I say loved, I mean REALLY loved. I had spent 5 years at the organisation and created a very good career for myself.
It was a long wait until the inevitable happened and I was given notice and placed on garden leave. Initially it was not big deal. I had a job lined up with another organisation which was due to commence any day now.
'Any day now' came and went. The word day was replaced by week, week by month. Panic started to set in. I had been looking for work, but mostly found myself coming up against agencies who never returned calls, job adverts on company websites that were out of date, and sending endless applications with little or no response.
Today, finally a breakthrough - a very good job offer, with a very good wage from (who I am told) a very good company. I start on Monday (eek)
This is an open letter to you all to say thank you for your kindness and support. The majority of you are total strangers to me and yet you have provide me with so much support, from a small supportive message via a tweet to full length emails with offers of help, specialised information for application forms and some very kind words.
I have lost count of the hours I have spent trawling through job sites - and there were times when things felt so dire to me. The weight of responsibility felt heavy, desperation set in hearing horror stories of neighbours and friends of friends who were coming on to nearly a year of unemployment after redundancy.
I cannot understate how much you guys and girls have helped me through. You have put up of my endless stream of moaning, frustration and self promotion for websites I have had way to much time to write on.
There are 4 people I would like to thank personally. They have been absolute rocks. I'm sorry if I have missed anyone else out for a personal mention. So many of you have got in touch I have truly lost count. Please don't be offended if you name is not here.

Of course a special thanks will always got to someone who is not on Twitter, and that is my partner Anna. I am sure the prospect of being the sole earner in the house was a lot of pressure to take. Yet she has never shown the strain and has been a huge support without putting pressure on me whatsoever. She is amazing in everything she does - that's why I love her.
